Coldplay cover Beastie Boys (and it’s quite good!) …?
As you may have heard, Adam “MCA” Yauch of the Beastie Boys is being treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node. Therefore, the hip hop group’s summer dates were canceled.
Various musicians playing New Jersey’s All Points West Music & Arts Festival have paid tribute to Yauch. Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs dedicated “Maps” to him and Jay-Z covered “No Sleep till Brooklyn” during his set. The most endearing and interesting tribute, IMO, came from Chris Martin, who performed a piano cover of “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)” during Coldplay’s set. I know Coldplay gets a lot of sh*t (they happen to be one of my favorite bands), but I don’t see how anyone could deny this was a nice move on Martin’s part: a fun, good-natured, respectful nod to a fellow musician.

Yes! I’m not a Beastie Boys fan much but Coldplay have been my favourite band since I was 10 so I heard this song as soon as it was posted online. I do love it – it’s a fantastic cover as well as nice gesture of Chris.
