What are some good music school?

I’m in 8th grade, and I play the flute. I’m very serious about it and I have my heart set on playing in a symphony one day. I want to be a professional flute player one day. I’m looking at possible colleges now, because I’m going to this young musician’s festival thing, and they ask you things like “What are your plans for the future?” and along those lines. I want to be prepared, and leave the impression that I have it all planned out. I want to study classical music. What are some good music schools?

For those of us old enough to remember, about 10 years ago, US News and World Report released a list of the top music schools in America. Their rankings were 1. Eastman (Rochester), 2. Juilliard (NYC) and 3. Indiana University. (Bloomington) Any serious search for schools to study at for the student intent on becoming a classical performer in the US should include at least a look at those 3 schools. Other schools to seriously look into (and see who their Flute teacher in specific is) are; Curtis, New England Conservatory, Temple University, Peabody Conservatory, and the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. There are other schools that may or may not be great for your instrument. Follow a professor rather than a specific program. i.e. Alan Abel, who taught at Temple, used to put many drummers into major symphonies. He was the kind of professor someone intent on securing a gig would follow.

It’s a pretty big leap of faith to understand that effect unless you personally see a toddler react to the stimulation. The Baby Einstein folks have a series of tapes (Baby Einstein, Baby Bach) that add visual stimulation to …

This powerful production originated on the stage of the Glyndebourne Festival. It was restaged and filmed on location for the BBC telecast preserved in this video recording. Director Trevor Nunn takes full advantage of the realism, fluidity of movement, and precision of small details that are difficult to achieve when televising a staged performance but easy and natural in a movie treatment. Nunn’…
